"Ferocious Frescos"

Now that Hobby Boss finally released (how long have we waited!) a decent 1:48 scale MiG-17 it was clear we just had to do a decal sheet for it. The MiG-17 had only a short career in the Soviet Union where it never went beyond the somewhat boring aluminium/red star scheme. But the situation looked very different elsewhere especially in Africa. Here the MiG-17 was one of the few fighter jets cheap enough and easy enough to maintain, consequently many of those aircraft soldiered on until the mid 1980s often wearing most exccentric camouflages and markings. Their service history was no less interesting and odd, Burkina Faso operated only a single example, Uganda's MiGs were blown apart by Israeli commandos and a Nigerian MiG-17 had the dubious honor of shooting down a Red Cross transport. We also included an Afghan bird with the the striking but almost forgotten early communist insignia.
